VISION — Seeing Through My Lens

AT1 Photographic Influences

my works

Inspiration from Billy Dinh

Photography

This is the AT1 Photographic Influences task, which we need to select a photographer and recreate his works of style, composition, and angles. We chose Billy because his photos capture quiet, reflective moments using natural light and quiet tones. The planning stage went smoothly and efficiently.  First, I chose the similar location such as the tram and street in Melbourne to recreate the atmosphere of stillness and observation. To echo Dinh’s original compositions, I use the same elements like the hat and use different level angle to echo Dinh’s original compositions. I analysized his works which most of them use mid -shot to create the  connection with one specific element. Then, I planned my photoshoot using similar camera positions and lighting conditions. I shot at different times of day to get the best natural light and adjusted exposure during editing. One challenge was finding suitable urban locations and the same shadow. For the first photo, I use high speed motion blur to highlight the movement of the car and the stillness of the person. The second one use eye level angle with a little bit high angle to show the quiet face and environment. For the last one, the mid-shot angle with the person in the central. I am satisfied with how my photos reflect Dinh’s feelings. The angle and framing worked well, and the use of natural tones strengthened the connection between my work and his style. The thing I want to change is that next time I will waiting for the right natural light, especially the soft sunlight in the afternoon, to make the photos look more warm and calm.

AT2 Film Marketing

Movie poster

This media product is a romance movie poster created for the AT2 Film Marketing task. It represents an imaginary film called Dancing in the Moonlight. The poster aims to attract audiences who enjoy emotional, gentle, and romantic stories. After annotating of two posters called Me before you and Five feet apart, I began to design my own poster. I decided to use dark blue to create a calm night atmosphere and placed a street lamp under the full moon to symbolize warmth and connection. The title font is elegant to show the gentle tone of the story. I chose a couple dancing as the key image to express intimacy and hope. I started by testing different color tones in Canva. I edited the lighting around the lamp and moon to create contrast between the background and the couple. I am happy with the final poster because it clearly shows the romantic and cinematic mood I wanted.  If I could improve it, I would  adding more details and elements to show the dramatic.
